"You are so sensitive. . ."
Whenever I hear this statement I wonder if the intent is to celebrate one's empathetic capacity or passively points to a perceived weakness. Just to be clear, for myself and for others whom feel deeply: Sensitivity is not a weakness or a character flaw. It is a superpower!
As we evolve, the more sensitive we become. As we become aware of ourselves and the world around us we begin to consider our actions and process our consequences.
Because of our lack of sensitivity for generations, mother nature has increased our sensitivity to our natural environment. I used to think the prevalence of food allergies was an LA thing. While folks might be slightly more vocal in LA, it is really just a sign o the times thing. It is a sensitivity thing.
As we evolve, the more sensitive we to our bodies. We are in tune with that which works and what does not.
I regard my sensitivity as a protection and a filter that is trying it's hardest to alert me of what is working and what is not. So, when I become sensitive to an issue, situation or a person, I take pause and listen to the message that is coming forward. What is my body, mind and spirit trying to tell me?
I implore you to embrace your sensitivity as a super power or magical shield. Use it to thwart off unwanted energies and to attract the things you desire. Sometimes I wonder if we medicate the wrong people in our country. (Although for some it really can become an understandable burden that needs relief.) But for those who can breeze through life without ever pondering the butterfly effect of their existence I wonder. . .
Is there a pill
to make some of us feel . . . more?
Feeling deeply for yourself while holding space for others is a gift and that deserves to be embraced and explored. My only caution, is that sensitivity only towards oneself is actually selfishness. If we only focus on how we are feeling in a situation, only aware of our needs, desires and wants, the power, beauty and humility of this trait turn dark.
The best way to stay on the light side of sensitivity is to stay curious. Most sensitive are curious and inquisitive and want to know how they can help or support. Asking question and listening to the answers increases awareness. Because sensitive people seek information and a deeper understanding, they are also trusted advisers. Possessing the ability to have a deeper understanding and genuine concern for others is the best way to move through the world.
